The Attic House Teen Project provides a safe environment for young people to meet where they are encouraged to engage in constructive, developmental activities leading to their own personal development and enabling them to involve themselves consciously in their own community.
The Attic House is a purpose built youth centre which encapsulates the needs of young people aged 10 – 18 years of age through the various programs, activities and events that are organised by dedicated, trained and committed volunteers on a daily basis. The Attic House has a computer suite, meeting rooms, a Youth Café, kitchen, offices and reception area. It is a relatively new development with another phase to be incorporated into the development in the coming years which will include outdoor sports area, demonstration kitchen, sound studio, and a workshop room for projects. Before the Attic House teen project there was the Attic Youth Café, which was run from a small room in the local parish hall and engaged with over 2,500 young people on an annual basis. It is envisaged that with the new facility the project will engage with a lot more young people as we are in a better position to meet the needs of our young people and in turn support their development and the development of the community of Longford.
The Attic House Teen Project was established on 26th of September 2015 in Longford Town. The Attic House is the redevelopment of the original Attic Youth Café established in November 2006 and was located in the Temperance Hall in Longford town. With the growing demands for provisions to be available to the ever growing population of young people in county Longford with particular emphasis on the Longford town area, a plan was set in motion to develop a purpose built youth facility for the young people of county Longford. After several years of fundraising and government lobbying, the youth facility we call the Attic House teen project became a reality.
